REPAIRING OUR FLOOD DAMAGED PATHS

The floods and torrential rain this winter have caused a huge amount of damage to footpaths in Todmorden and the Upper Calder Valley.
CROWS have a list of paths they need to repair from all over the area, but they need the public’s help to identify problems that they know are out there. So make it easy, they have just introduced a new simple system for people to contact us.
From this week there are 4 ways to report a path problem to CROWS:
• Call their new Path problem line on 0784 964 0784 and leave a message (why not put this number in your contact list?)
• Send a message through the CROWS Facebook page
• Email crows-coop@outlook.com (a photo of the problem would help)
• Leave a note at Mountain Wild, Hebden Bridge or White Ribbon in Mytholmroyd or at Todmorden Visitor centre
Please tell them about any problem, not just those related to flood damage.
Why not put the number in your contacts and please share this with your walking friends.

News is spreading that thieves from as far afield as London are taking advantage of flood damage to local property where alarm systems are down, windows are boarded up etc, and where people are starting to refit or restock.
Everyone should remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the authorities.

Due to the weather, the Christmas Lights Switch On in Weavers Square has had to be postponed until Sunday evening – 6 December 2015.
Christmas trees remain on sale from 3pm on Saturday 5 December 2015.

CALDERDALE LOCAL PLAN: Consultation
POTENTIAL SITES AND OTHER ASPECTS OF THE LOCAL PLAN – including
COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY (CIL)
The Council is preparing a new Local Plan and a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
The Local Plan will set out a framework for how the District should grow, over the next 15 years, to meet the need for new homes and jobs, and will also identify sites for proposed development, and areas that will be protected.
Consultation starts at 12 noon on 6 November 2015 and runs for 6 weeks until 5pm 18 December 2015. Residents and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to comment on potential sites, and other aspects of the Local Plan, and the Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule for CIL.
Mapping will be available on the Council’s website, at a series of drop-in sessions and in due course in all Calderdale’s libraries. You will be able to view the location of possible development sites and consider information from detailed site assessments. There will also be the opportunity to comment on a document which presents other aspects of the Plan, including an explanation of how the future housing requirement has been assessed.
To make your comments, please use the links below:

Heptonstall Family Day – Easter weekend 2016
Saturday March 26th – the day after Pace Egg – will be our first Heptonstall Family Day!
This is being planned and organised across the generations and is so far going to include:
This event is being sponsored by Heptonstall Junior and Infant School, Calderdale Events and Festivals Fund, Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, local businesses and private donations.
The Gift of Giving
This very special Christmas Carol concert, working together with school, will take place in St Thomas’ Church on Thursday 17th December at 9.30 am.
This event is open to all, and beforehand there will be a series of singing workshops and rehearsals at the Bowling Club, as well as a gift making workshop, where our younger children will make small gifts to hand to our older generations around the village and at the concert on the day.
For full details contact Beth Hardman on 07796 265027.
New Format Art Club: Changing Faces
We are pleased to announce a new collaboration with Heptonstall Junior and Infant School – our Art Classes will now involve both the younger and older generations of Heptonstall and beyond. A regular class will be held with the children at the school, with an alternating class being held in Mytholm Meadows, where our younger artists will come down to paint and craft alongside our older folks.
This will be a regular class, culminating in an art exhibition and film show at The Heptonstall Bowling and Social Club next year. Nick Wilding will be filming some of the process as well as showing his film of 8 year olds interviewing 80 year olds that he filmed in 2000.
If you would like more information or to get involved, contact Pauline Walker at Mytholm Meadows, on 01422 843194
The Heptonstall Village Team and members of St Thomas’ Church have collaborated to apply for funding to kit out the new kitchen with catering equipment. This means that shortly after Christmas we’ll have another place to hold lunch club events for our older generations, as well as providing catering facilities to support other church events.
Our Lunch Clubs at The Towngate Tea Rooms and The Shoulder of Mutton in Mytholmroyd continue to prove popular, though we will be looking to see if the days need to be adjusted in the New Year.
These are currently the second Wednesday in the month for Towngate Tea Rooms (3pm) and the last Wednesday in the month for The Shoulder of Mutton in Mytholmroyd (12pm).
HEPTONSTALL VOLUNTEERS WANTED
CROWS is a group of volunteers who maintain and improve the
Footpath network in the Upper Calder and Ryburne valleys. We clear vegetation, build stiles, gates and boardwalks, deal with drainage and way-mark routes. We also monitor and survey paths. We currently work on Wednesdays and Fridays from about 9.30-2.30 from our base in Mytholmroyd.
At the moment we are particularly short of people who can work on Fridays. In addition we have nobody from Heptonstall in the group, so we feel that we are missing some local knowledge.
Stella started working with CROWS earlier this year & says: “it’s great to have a regular date to work outdoors with a nice bunch of people who have local knowledge, experience & expertise to share. We get a lot done – you can see the fruits of your labours after each day which is very satisfying. And we are often working on a path I’ve never been on before, despite walking in this area for over 30 years.
If you want to know more about what we do, have a look at our blog at http://www.communityrightsofwayservice.blogspot.co.uk
This will take you to the most recent activity page. To go to earlier posts, either use the index on the right hand side or use the ‘Older posts’ button at the bottom of the page.
Having seen the kind of things we do, if you are interested in helping us, or if you have any questions, please get in touch by email to crows-coop@outlook.com or contact us on 07872 960942.
