I am a Yorkshire expat living in Durban, South Africa and my late father spent some of his boyhood and youth at Highgate Farm.
Each time I have visited UK I have made a point of visiting the area and in particular May’s shop which is well named as Aladdin,s Cave stocking everything imaginable from whisky to aniseed balls, unheard of in this part of the world, and home baked pastries..
My wish is that such a good and famous establishment and its fine service to the public will continue and prosper for many years..
I worked at high gate farm in the late 60s early 70s picking up eggs and mucking them out. The shop was where the eggs were graded and packed.
I’m sure I worked with May and her husband at that time
Very happy days
