Making a short film…

Polly Thomas is a local drama director and am working on a short film about the Hebden Bridge area.

“The basis for the film will be short audio interviews with local people about living here and their views for the future. I can send more information, but does this sound of interest in principle? If there are any groups that meet regularly who might be interested, we could come and record them, or it would be great to advertise via your website”.

“Interviewees can be anonymous and we only need their voices – a photo is optional. The film will be screened at Nutclough Mill on 7th and 8th July then again at the Piece Hall in Halifax on 30th September and 1st October. it will also be available on websites and social media. The project is funded by Calderdale Council and Arts Council via the Landlines and Watermarks scheme”.

“Please do contact me at this email if you would like to discuss”.

Polly Thomas – 2 May 2017.

Network Rail – Calder Valley Route Upgrade – forthcoming work and information sessions

As part of the rail investment in the North, Network Rail are investing over £1 billion on targeted upgrades to the rail network, helping to support and grow the regional economy.

The Calder Valley Route Upgrade is part of this investment programme. The route upgrade will deliver faster services and improve connections between key towns and cities across the North.

As part of the upgrade plan, we will be carrying out track and signal upgrades along the Calder Valley route, this will pave the way for faster journeys.

We have already completed the upgrade to signals and track between Manchester Victoria and Littleborough. We are currently working on upgrades between Littleborough and Bradford Interchange.

From 19 March until 15 May 2017 (excluding Easter and Tour de Yorkshire weekends), we will be working weekends to renew and lower track in locations along the route. We’re working closely with train operators to communicate changes to services with passengers and advising passengers to check before you travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk

We understand that our work will also impact on communities (especially people who live and work nearby the railway); we will notify in advance of working, explain what work is planned and when we expect our work to be noisy.

We’re working with businesses, local authorities, media and politicians to make sure the general public know what is happening and when.

We are holding a series of community information sessions about the Calder Valley Route Upgrade; we would like to invite you to attend. Representatives from Network Rail and our contractors will be on hand to answer any questions about this planned work.

Woofstock Event Tribute

ground-crew-500

“The Woofstock Ground Crew” – photo courtesy of Craig Shaw Photography

Our logistics manager is 17 years old. Our Woofstock Dogs entertainment marquee was organised, run and managed by 11 year olds and our car park marshals , and other ground crew ranged from 11 to 17.

Most of them live in Heptonstall and they ALL stepped up, stepped out and did a truly professional job on behalf of The Heptonstall Village Team.

Customer service and care were first class and taking responsibility for delivering a great day was clearly evident from this young team.

PS – A big thumbs up to Adrian Baldwin and Amey for allowing us use of hi viz jackets on the day!!

Steam comes to Blackshawhead Fete

2016 fete posterThis year’s Blackshaw Head Village Fete on Saturday 3rd September boasts a great new attraction! Brighouse and Halifax Model Engineers will be offering rides on one of their steam-powered railway trains, on a length of track specially installed for the occasion.

The Fete starts at 1.30pm and the steam train is just one part of an afternoon extravaganza which includes live music from the Peace Artistes; a variety of stalls and sideshows, two different dog shows, and the legendary Produce Competition. For the children there’s Punch and Judy and magic shows, bouncy slide, face painting and kids’ sports, whilst the adults can enjoy the beer tent, food stalls and and barbecue.

Lunches and afternoon teas will, as usual, be available in “Pats’ Pantry” in the next-door Blackshaw Head Chapel, and in addition the chapel hosts the local history group SHED’s exhibition and the schools’ art competition.

The Fete is also the start and finish point for the Blackshaw Head Fell Race, starting at 2pm, (category BS : distance 8.9km, climb 274m; entry on the day; full details at www.blackshawheadfellrace.co.uk/).

FETE STEAM 2Admission to the fete is by donation at the gate. The 596 bus leaves Hebden Bridge at a quarter past the hour and stops outside the fete field, returning each hour just after half past.   Full fete details are available on-line at the website www.blackshaw.net/village-fete/. This contains the fete programme and entry forms for the children’s and adults’ produce competitions and the dog show. These can also be picked up from Hebden Bridge TIC, Heptonstall Post Office, Great Rock Coop, and May’s farm shop at Colden, which also has spare entry forms.

Up to date information can be found on Blackshaw Head Fete’s social media pages.

Village Team Jumble Trail Event

We are running a Jumble Trail Event in Heptonstall on Monday 29th August.

There will be things on at the bowling club for families, as well as bacon sarnies, a good value lunch and bouncy castle for the kids.

Anyone wanting to get involved will be given space in the bowling club, or the chance to ‘buddy up’ with some-one along the trail.

Please contact Jan Lymer on 01422 847979 or 07772 168812 so we can match you  up with someone local.

Anyone can come along and raise money for their own cause, or just get the chance to de-clutter the house!!

It is going to be a lovely way to while away a few hours over the bank holiday, and the village will be judging its best garden competition on that day too.
