Picnic about Slack Chapel

Picnic flyer-page-0Don’t forget tomorrow’s family picnic at Popples Common to help find out local people’s views on the future of the Slack Baptist Chapel. The Big Picnic will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, 12 July. Bring your own food and blanket,  find out more about ideas for the future of the building, and share your own thoughts.

The chapel was sold by the Baptists several years ago and is currently owned by an evangelical Christian group, however services have had to be moved because of problems renovating the building. Suggestions to use it as a halfway house for those recovering from drug abuse were dropped after objections from local residents. Could the chapel become a community centre, or could there be other uses for the building? All are welcome to this picnic to talk and find out more.

Children’s parade

giant peachWith the generous financial support from The Heptonstall Junior and Infant School and the Friends and Parents of Heptonstall we had £200 sponsorship to spend on materials for the children’s parade on Festival Day.
We will be meeting at 10.30 am in Weavers Square and parading from 11 am headed up by the Heptonstall Pantomime Group and Drum Machine.
Jacky Kelly, from the Heptonstall Village Team will be knocking on doors along the route and seeing if some of our older generations would like a ring side seat as the parade passes through.
The Heptonstall Out of School Club have also lent their support to the event, by making a large Giant Peach to carry aloft on the day.
As a final touch, some of the kids will be carrying platters of peaches to offer to our special ‘roadside guests’ as the parade passes by.
(We have limited edition, balloons on sale on the route for £1.00 each (sponsored by Arty party of Todmorden) and this money will help us to cover the cost of activities at the bowling club
The programme that is running at the bowling club is targeted at families or our older folks.
It is an area to take the kids for a sit down and  value ALL YOU CAN EAT Tapas, or sandwich platter lunch. Or a quicker cake and sarnie.
There are lots of free activities where the youngest and oldest amongst us can join in.

Cuddly prizes at the ready

teddy festival 1The first load of teddies are washed and drying ready for the Teddy Tombola in the Bowling Club on Festival day! Come along with your ‘Wonka Winks’ and have a go at winning one!!! Beth Hardman is selling £4 bags of Wonka Winks in the Heptonstall school playground in advance of the festival for the bargain price of £2.50. The Winks can be spent in the bowling club on Festival Day, to take away the problem of giving children money.

Artist Update: Owter Zeds

Owterzeds bring their own brand of musical sunshine with them wherever they go. Their upbeat mixture of original ska and rock is loved by audiences around the valley and beyond. They will be playing at Heptonstall Festival as an eight piece – don’t miss them on the Ruin Stage at 5.20pm!

Three throws for oneThe Heptonstall Villlage Teams’s first fundraiser is to invite you all to re-visit the election and buy 3 water bombs for a pound, Emma Hartley and the Calder High Students are manning this stand for the princely sum of now’t.

The stand was made for us for free, and signage company: ‘School Image’ provided all the graphics and promotional boards for us FOC. So all funds received will help to cover todays FREE activities

Flo BellamyFlo Bellamy photo booth is our second fundraiser. For £1.00 per person you can whizz into her booth, grab a prop and get a 30 second fast fire round of shots, before whizzing out the other side. Flo is working for now’t for us, but she will be offering to enhance your shots and get them printed on acrylic blocs, canvas etc. Your shots will be available to download for FREE after the event.

Festival Poster

Our third fundraiser is the pop up café in the bowling club. Here you can fill your platter from our ALL YOU CAN EAT Tapas Buffet or buy a children’s sandwich platter before settling down to watch the kids playing on the children’s stalls in the bowing club.

We will also be selling afternoon tea and cake, served in old fashioned miss- matched cups, saucers cups and saucers.

Once again Emma Hartley has arranged for some Calder High School Students to help us out, and all profits from this café will go directly to The Heptonstall Village Team, and the costs of putting the day on.

Artist Update: Brunelle

Hailing from all over Britain, but having met at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Brunelle are a Post-Folk quartet. Drawing influence from a variety of sources, Brunelle perform hard hitting original music, with hear felt lyrics.
On the tail end of recording their first songs to release, the boys at Brunelle are now working on an interesting and innovative way to distribute these to the public using alternative media formats.
So far this year Brunelle have played at the RNCM Big Weekender, Manchester Day, and at The Castle, drawing crowds from all over Manchester to see them.
Expect big things from Brunelle, you won’t be disappointed.
Catch them on the Ruin Stage at 4.20pm.

A fun day to be had for all across the whole village!

Artist Update: The Tiny Minds

ttm 2

We’re pretty sure that sometime soon, we’re not going to be able to afford this band as they’ve got a whole lot of momentum and all the ingredients to make a big splash. Hopefully, they’ll remember us kindly and come back to play for us in future years.. Last year their set was divine, we’re really excited they’re back!

The Tiny Minds are West Yorkshire based up-and-coming 3 piece, playing all original material, mixing blues, punk, psychedelia, pop and soul into a lively rock n roll cocktail.

The fresh, unique lyrics of singer/guitarist Duncan Foster cover themes from technological doom and dystopia to the paranoia and politics of relationships.
